How Overhearing a Conversation In The Grocery Store Inspired Today's Blog
It was funny really. There I was innocently picking my weekly bunch of the "greenest" possible bananas at my neighborhood Publix when I overheard the conversation.
Two women, talking over their shopping carts in front of the tomatoes, who evidently hadn't seen each other for several months were catching up on the idiosyncrasies of their individual lives.
At first, I was just aware of the conversation. Not the actual details of the conversation. You know. It sounded something like Charlie Brown's teacher. "....wah wah wah wah, wah wah WAH wah WAH WAH..."bed bugs". There it was. The key word to the conversation was “Bed Bugs”!
What? I looked up from the bananas and thought to myself that these ladies should probably take the conversation outside. Other shoppers appeared to be as mystified as I was. People were walking around, shaking their heads and looking at each other as if to say “….do you believe this conversation?” Meanwhile, the women conversing were totally oblivious to the rest of us.
I'll be the first to admit, that my true-life experiences are often the influence of my Blogs. I can’t help it! Sometimes you just can’t make up this stuff on your own! Although this conversation was a little gross, it was somehow comical to me as it unfolded. There these women were smack dab in the produce section of Publix discussing Bed Bugs while store patrons were trying to shop for fruits and vegetables around them.
So, when I got home, I picked up my trusty IPad and Googled …BED BUGS.
Sheri Spencer Bachman, Julie Paulk and the team at Spencer Pest Control happen to be my termite and pest control company. (I assure you! I don't have bed bugs!) In my search for bed bugs, I leanred that Spencer Pest Control has a blog and has on occasion discussed Bed Bugs. In a recent Blog posted at Spencer Pest Control, Julie Paulk discusses the subject of Bed Bugs. At their website and blog, I was able to find the following regarding -- what else – BED BUGS! Enjoy.
How To Detect Bed Bugs in Your Home
Posted by Julie Paulk
Did you wake up itchy or find tiny blood stains in your sheets? Having bed bugs is no laughing matter.
5 Signs You May Have Bed Bugs
1) Live bedbugs are a clear indication of an infestation.
2) Bed bug eggs are evidence of an active bed bug infestation
3) Bed Bug Skins (bed bugs must shed their skin in order to grow)
4) Bed bug fecal staining on sheets (after feeding 5-7 times a day, they deposit the digested blood on your bed or where ever they may be hiding)
5) Bed bug fecal staining near typical harborage sites
Where to check for bed bugs?
• Sheets
• Pillowcases
• Mattresses
• Bed frames
• Headboard seams, piping, straps and other hiding places
• Cracks and crevices near the beds
• Inside and underneath furniture (including removal of drawers)
• Behind pictures, drapes and wall hangings
• Behind baseboards
• Under carpet edges
• Inside books
• On stuffed animals
• Behind loose wallpaper
How to tell if a bite was from a bed bug or not:
You can’t. Since bite reactions vary, and bites from other insects may have similar appearances to those of bed bugs, you cannot accurately determine for certain if you have bed bugs simply from a bite and no other evidence.
What size are bed bugs?
Bed bugs are pretty small, only growing up to 5mm in length and up to 3mm in width.
