Cherokee County SAT Scores Tie For TOP of Metro Atlanta Area!

There's great news in Cherokee County, GA this week as reported in the local Atlanta news media and the local Cherokee Ledger News!

Cherokee County 2013 graduates have upheld their reputation for stellar SAT scores by tying with Fulton County this year for the highest performance in the 10-county Atlanta Regional Commission area.  The school district tied with Fulton County for the top metro-Atlanta ranking with a score of 1567, which is the second highest score in the state.

In 2012, Cherokee took the state honors for highest average scores with 1587.

Cherokee's Class of 2013 beat the national average on the standardized test that measures college readiness by 69 points and the state average by 115 points.  The curriculum-based college entrance and placement test is the most commonly recognized measure of achievement for high school students.

All Cherokee County School District (CCSD) high schools scored above the national and state averages on the test, which is designed to measure critical reading, mathematics and writing abilities.  The number of CCSD students taking the SAT increased by 119 in 2013 over the previous year, when 1,450 students took the test.  The total possible score is 2,400 -- critical reading, mathematics and writing are each worth 800 points.

Among more than 450 high schools in the state, all six CCSD schools ranked in the top 75.  Etowah High School was 25th in the state, followed by Cherokee High School at 26th and Creekview High School ranked 27th.  Sequoyah High School ranked 37th, Woodstock High School ranked 41st, and in it's first year graduating a senior class, River Ridge ranked 66th.

State of Georgia seniors scored an overall 1452.  The score is the same as last year, when the state SAT average rose seven points from the previous year.

Congratulations to all area high schools and students!  This is a terrific accomplishment and bodes well for our local home values too!  As folks relocate to Georgia, they always want to know where the best schools are!  I can continue to encourage home buyers to consider Cherokee County when schools are important to their family.  Ultimately the bottom line is that not only are the scores great for the students, they are also excellent for a vibrant economy in Cherokee County!  Thanks to the teachers, administrations and students.  You've made Cherokee Country very proud!
